FinalBoss 2017 – Go Hard or Go Home

Am Ende war der Anfang:

Kurz vor dem Jahreswechsel 16-17 kam sie zum ersten Mal auf, die Idee „FinalBoss 2017“.

Zuerst klang es allerdings noch wie eine der üblichen WhatsApp-Spinnereien.

At the end there was the beginning:

Shortly before the turn of the year 16-17 the idea of FinalBoss 2017 came up.

First it sounded like a typical WhatsApp-Bullshit.

Aber spätestens nachdem alle das Video gesehen hatten, wurde es dann schnell konkret: Flüge gecheckt, Urlaub geprüft, Unterkünfte gesucht.

At least since everybody had watched the video, the plans became serious: flights were booked, vacations were checked and hotels were searched.

Am Ende waren wir dann sieben Zwerg… Jungs, die sich auf den Weg nach Schottland machten, Schneewittchen ließen wir dieses Mal zu Hause.

Finally seven dwar… dudes made their way to Scotland, leaving Snow White at home this time.

Spätabends in Edinburgh angekommen, ging es am nächsten Tag direkt zum ca. eine Autostunde entfernt gelegenen Lochgelly Raceway, von dem das Driftland ein Teil des Geländes einnimmt.

Arriving in Edinburgh late at night we were heading the next day to the approximately one hour away Lochgelly Raceway, which Driftland is a part of.

Driftland – Einen passenderen Namen hätte man nicht finden können für eine Driftstrecke, die nur für diesen einen Zweck gebaut wurde, dabei vergleichsweise preiswert ist (z.B. kostete das komplette FinalBoss-Wochenende die Fahrer nur 250£ inkl. Camping), relativ laxe Geräuschlimits (103dB) hat und ein für die Zuschauer zu 100% einsehbares, sehr abwechslungsreiches Layout bietet.

Klingt wie ein Traum. Ist aber die Realität.

Driftland – a more appropriate name would’nt have been possible for this drifttrack, solely built for this purpose, relatively cheap (the weekend charge for drivers incl. camping was only 250£), lax noise emission limits (103db) and an really varying layout, for the viewers nearly 100% accessible.

Sounds like a dream. Is reality though.

Selbstverständlich gibt es eine Wall zum Tappen und viel Platz für schnelle und ausgedehnte Drifts

Of course there is a wall for tapping and a lot of space for fast and extended drifts

Die Streckenbelag ist glatt und eben, perfekt für die, vom Veranstalter FinalBoss geforderte, heftige Tiefe der Autos

Tiefe, Felgen, Sticker, JDM: Möglichst genau den Style der japanischen Drifter Anfang der Nuller Jahre zu treffen, ist eine Besonderheit der Veranstaltung

The road surface is smooth and even, just perfect for some crazy lowness of the cars, which was requested by the promoter FinalBoss

Lowness, wheels, livery, JDM: The urge to meet the original style of the JDM drifter scene at the beginning of the century is one speciality of the event.

Teams wie Low Origin, Dori Labs oder Bustin Loose, aber auch Einzelfahrer wie zum Beispiel der e30 mit SR20 und männlicher Tiefe vermittelten dabei die Botschaft:

Egal wie gut du auch fahren kannst, du musst dabei cool aussehen.

Teams like Low Origin, Dori Labs and Bustin Loose but also single drivers for example the e30 with an SR20 engine and a manly lowness communicate the message:

No matter how good you may drive, you definitely have to look cool while doing it.

Aber nicht nur auf der Strecke gab es viel zu sehen, auch der Besucherparkplatz war voll mit automobiler Hotness

But not only on track there was a lot to see, also the visitors car park was filled with motorized hotness

Der Parkplatz diente gleichzeitig auch als Fahrerlager und Boxengasse, in der repariert und instandgesetzt werden konnte

Dass das Ganze auf einem Kiesplatz ohne jegliche Versiegelung gegen Öl und anderen Flüssigkeiten ablief, verwunderte (offenbar nur) uns Deutsche 😀

The parking space not only served as a visitors parking lot but also as a paddock for the drivers and their machines to relax and repair

All that happening on an unsealed surface, where oil and other fluids can ooze away, was astonishing. Obviously only for us Germans 😀

FinalBoss ist aber nicht nur Drift und Action, auch einen beeindruckenden Show&Shine-Contest gab es nebenan

FinalBoss isn’t just drifting and action, there was nearby an impressive Show&Shine-Contest as well

Gewinner des Best of Show wurde dabei diese makellose S15 mit RB26DETT, Airride und Panasport G7 von @mike_urk. Verdient!

Gedriftet wurde von Samstagvormittag bis Sonntagabend beinahe durchgehend

There was nearly non-stop drifting from Saturday forenoon till Sunday evening

Pausen gab es nur bei den wenigen Ausrutschern oder wenn das Layout geändert wurde.

There were only intermissions when drifts went wrong a little bit or the layout was changed.

Das Wetter verhielt sich wie erwartet britisch, es wechselte ständig zwischen sonnig und regnerisch.

Dafür war aber die Stimmung durchgehend toll, alle Leute sehr entspannt und gesprächig und wenn man sich ein Passenger-Bändchen für 5£ besorgt hatte, konnte man mit wenigen Ausnahmen überall mal mitfahren.

The weather was as we’d expected very british, varying permanently between sunny and rainy.

Considering that the atmosphere was amazing, the people were relaxed and communicative and in case you would’ve bought a passenger wristband for 5£ you’d be allowed everywhere to ride shotgun, with only few execptions.

Ich hatte dabei großes Glück, zufällig in die Washloo-S13 mit BMW V8 von Oliver Evans gestiegen zu sein.

Personally I was very lucky choosing Oliver Evans and his Washloo-S13 with an BMW V8.

Oliver ist professioneller Fahrer einer S15 in der BDC und der IDC und lieferte sich in diesem Lauf eine heftige Battle mit der Dori Labs-S14 und einer weiteren blauen S14a.

He’s a professional driver in the BDC and IDC, usually driving in a S15 and he was fighting a fierce but friendly battle with the Dori Labs-S14 and another cool S14a.

Insgesamt waren wir vier Tage vor Ort und die Zeit war dennnoch viel zu knapp.

Was nicht zuletzt daran liegt, dass Edinburgh selbst ja auch ein großer Touristenmagnet ist und viele viele Sehenswürdigkeiten bietet:

Overall we stayed four days in Scotland but we’re already pressed on time.

Not least because Edinburgh itself is a very big magnet for tourists, offering lots of points of interest:

Either cultural or scenic…

FinalBoss 2017 ist vorbei, aber wie gehts jetzt weiter? Natürlich mit Spinnereien in WhatsApp…
