Die Prüfstandsläufe am Freitag wurden auf dem Gelände des in Las Vegas ortsansässigen Tuners Virtual Works Racing durchgeführt. Dieses eignete sich hervorragend dafür, liegt es doch etwas außerhalb in einem Industriegebiet. Somit stören 800 PS Supras, die mit 4″ Straight Pipe auf einem Prüfstand die Erde zum Beben bringen, absolut niemanden. Das ganze Flair ist einmalig, die Szenerie mit einer kompletten Straße voller hochmodifizierter Fahrzeuge, hunderten PS-Verrückten, abgerundet mit coolen Beats eines Live-DJ´s, könnte einem bekannten Film-Franchise entnommen sein. Hollywood 2001? Nein, Las Vegas 2017. Die nächtliche Kick-Off Party steuerte ihr übriges bei.
The Dyno Run Event is being held on the premises of the Las Vegas local tuner Virtual Works Racing. That’s the best location for such an event, being a little bit outside of Vegas in an industrial area. Hence, 800hp Supras, that make the dyno rumble with their 4″ straight pipes, are no cause for complaints by any irritated residents. The flair is unique, imagine a scenery with a street full of highly modded vehicles, hundreds of power junkies, everything surrounded by beats by a DJ…might sound like borrowed from a certain movie franchise.
Hollywood, 2001? Nope, Las Vegas, 2017. The Kick-Off Party was all part of the atmosphere, too.

Es gibt alles zu sehen, was das Supra-Herz begehrt…und zwar wirklich alles: Ein MK 2 in Erstbesitz eines 85jährigen, regelmäßigen Besuchers von SIV? Aber klar doch. Ein MK 2 oder MK 3 Supra mit Umbau auf 1JZ oder 2JZ? Natürlich.
You get to see everything a Supra Enthusiast’s heart longs for…literally E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G: A MK2 Supra still owned by it’s first owner, a 85-year old gentleman, who frequently visits SIV for years? Sure! A 1JZ- or 2JZ-converted MK2 or MK3? Yes Sir!
MKIV Supras mit gigantischen Singleturbos oder als Sauger mit Einzeldrosselanlage? Aber selbstverständlich.

Aber auch Originalitätsfanatiker kommen auf ihre Kosten. Ein MK3 in Zweitbesitz mit Auslieferungspapieren aus dem Werk? Selbstverständlich vor Ort. Ein makelloser 6Gang MKIV mit 20 000 Meilen? Klar, ist da!
Also for OEM enthusiasts there’s a lot to see: A MK3 owned by it’s second owner with all the original manufacturing documents from the factory? Yep, it’s been there. An immaculate 6-Speed MKIV with 20.000mls? Of course it’s there!
90 % aller Fahrzeuge sind zudem auf Showcarniveau, egal ob innen, außen oder Motorraum.
And the best thing about all the cars: 90% of them are in showcar condition, on the outside, the inside and in the engine bay.
Normalerweise ist dies also der entspannteste aller Event-Tage. Normalerweise? Ja, genau, jedoch sollte sich dies in den Abendstunden ändern, als ich von einem Freund, den ich am Vorabend bei einer Partytour über den Strip kennengelernt habe, gefragt wurde, ob wir nicht seine beiden 1JZ MK3´s (ein Trackfahrzeug mit Käfig, ein Showcar mit Singleturbo, welches am Folgetag den Award für die beste modifizierte MK 3 gewann) zu dem Event fahren wollen. Bin ich jemals MK 3 oder etwas mit 1JZ vorher selbst gefahren? Nein! War das geil? Ohja!

So, usually this is the most chilled out of all days you are saying? Typically, yes. But this should change once dusk kicked in, when a friend, whome I met the day before during a party trip on the Las Vegas Strip, asked us whether we’d like to drive both of his 1JZ MK3s to the event (a track tool with a rollcage and a showcar with Single Turbo, that later won the event for the best modded MK3 in SIV17). Have I ever been driving a MK3 or something 1JZ-powered before? No! Was it awesome? Hellyeah!

Wenn dir anschließend ein Typ mit den Worten „You wanna drive my car?“ die Schlüssel seines Autos in die Hand drückt, und es sich dabei um einen 650 PS MKIV handelt, ist dir klar, dass auch die Worte „Do a 2-step“ die Situation nicht wirklich normalisieren werden. Bin ich jemals Singleturbo Supra gefahren? Nein! ….das dazu im nächtlichen Las Vegas? Doppelt nein! Mein Glück konnte ich absolut nicht fassen, zumal der Wagen mit einer Straight Pipe bestückt war und wir dank des demontierten Targadaches den Sound ungefiltert genießen konnten.

Later, when you are being offered the keys to a car with the words „You wanna drive my car?“, it became clear quite fast that „Do a 2-step“ wouldn’t calm the situation in any way. The car? A 650hp MKIV.
Have I ever been driving a Single Turbo Supra? No!…in night-time Vegas? Double-No! I couldn’t realize the situation. Plus: The car was equipped with a straight pipe we could fully appreciate driving with the targa top down.

Als wenn das nicht alles Highlight genug gewesen wäre, durfte ich dann noch eine Runde in einem ziemlich bekannten Supra mit Nonturbo-Motor mit Einzeldrosselanlage eines sehr guten Freundes drehen, was eine unheimlich Ehre war, da dieses Auto sonst beinahe niemand fahren darf. Dies war unter anderem auch aus diesem Grund mein Highlight der Highlights, wenn man nach dieser Flut an Eindrücken davon sprechen kann.

And if that wasn’t enough highlights, I was also allowed to drive one of the most renown N/A Supras with ITBs owned by a buddy, which also was a hell of an honour, as almost no one else is allowed to drive this particular car.
For this reason this became my highlight out of the highlights, if you can say so at all after all of these impressions.

Spätestens jetzt hatte ich das Gefühl, dass ich alles im Leben erreichbare und von mir jemals erträumte erlebt habe. Ist das alles wirklich passiert? Fakt ist, dass dies alles zu viel war, um es mal eben schnell zu verarbeiten. Vegas hat mich geschafft, und zwar ganz anders, als es wohl sonst jedem üblichen Touristen widerfährt.
In this moment I felt like I had reached everything I could dream of in life. Did all of this happen? As a matter of fact, the sum of all impressions in this situation was way more than one person could handle. Vegas had finished me off, in a totally different way any other tourist would experience it.
Der letzte Tag des Events findet traditionell auf dem Las Vegas Motorspeedway statt. Bereits das zweite Jahr in Folge wurde eine Kollaboration mit den Organisatoren der Street Driven Tour eingegangen, um mehr Zuschauer anzulocken und Kosten zu senken. Somit gab es auf dem Gelände der Rennstrecke alles, was das Herz begehrt: Supra Show and Shine,
The last day of the event was held traditionally at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. It was a collaboration with the Street Driven Tour for the second year in a row in order to gain more attraction to this event. Thus, everything was available on these premises a car-fanatic would reach for: Supra Show and Shine,

gaben sich die Ehre und zeigten den Zuschauern ihr reichlich vorhandenes Können in Bezug auf Fahrzeugbeherrschung jenseits des Grenzbereiches. Aber auch die Grassroots-Driftszene war zahlreich vor Ort.

But also the Grassroots Scene was at place.
Normalerweise gehört auch das klassische Viertelmeilen-Rennen auf geklebter Strecke zum gebotenen Spektakel. Dies kam dieses Jahr leider etwas zu kurz, da wir vom Veranstalter vier Wochen vor Eventbeginn einen anderen Platz auf dem Gelände zugewiesen bekommen haben und somit in nicht erreichbarer Nähe des Quarter-Mile-Strips waren.
Usually the traditional 1/4 Mile drag race event on the prepared track is also part of this event. This year drag racing was a little bit displaced, because the actual Supra event was relocated short-term from the actual drag strip, which made access to the drag races a bit complicated this year.
Leider reicht die Zeit an nur einem einzigen Tag nicht, um wirklich alles Gebotene in vollsten Zügen zu genießen. Kurz vor der alljährlichen Preisvergabe für die verschiedensten Klassen (bspw. schönster MK II/III/IV unmodifiziert und modifiziert, schönster Motorraum Turbo/Nonturbo, weiteste Anreise mit/ohne Fahrzeug usw.) zog zudem ein heftiges Gewitter über dem Speedway auf: die 2-Step Competition.
Again, time was too short this year to appreciate all impressions in detail. Before the actual awards for Best MK II/III/IV, modified, unmodified, etc. were handed over to the lucky contestants, a heavy thunderstorm came over Vegas: The 2-Step competition.
Schlussendlich möchte ich im Namen unserer Reisegruppe der ganzen US-Community für das danken, was sie die letzten beiden Jahre für uns getan hat: uns herzlicher in ihrem Kreis aufgenommen, als wir es jemals hätten ahnen können und uns die schönsten Erlebnisse unseres Lebens und somit die Verwirklichung unseres Lebenstraums ermöglicht (zwei Mal!). Wir waren Akteure in dem Szenario, wovon wir schon als Kinder dank der Redline-Videos geträumt haben. Supras In Vegas ist wäre der Supras wegen ganz nett, denn man sieht die saubersten, besten, schönsten und meisten Supras, die man je vor den eigenen Augen haben wird…vor allem, wenn man aus Europa kommt. Man wird jedoch nie ganz zufrieden mit diesem Event sein, wenn man nicht die offenherzigen, tollen Besitzer der Fahrzeuge kennt. Ich habe innerhalb von zwei Jahren hunderte Menschen aus der USA und Kanada kennengelernt. Der Wert in Euro für diese zwei Reisen: ziemlich hoch. Der Wert dieser zwei Reisen für mich selbst? Unbezahlbar. Sicher ist, dass es eine Erfüllung des Lebenstraumes Teil 3 geben wird. Wir kamen wegen eines über 20 Jahre alten Toyotas, wir bleiben wegen den Menschen.
Last, but not least I’d like to give a huge shoutout in the name of our group to the US community and once again be grateful for all you guys did for us in the last two years: gave us a warm-hearted welcome, let us be part of the great community and gave us the chance to experience some of the most memorable impressions of our lifes, consequently fulfilling our life time goals (Twice!).
We became protagonists in the very scenario we already dreamed of when still being teenagers dreaming of the Redline videos. Supras in Vegas would be all nice just for all the Supras, because you get to see the cleanest, best, most beautiful and plentiful Supras, especially coming from Europe.
But you can never get the full picture without becoming friends with their warm-hearted awesome owners.
I became friends with hundreds of people from all over North America.
The price for this journey in Euro? Pretty high. The value of these two journeys for myself? Priceless.
It should be pretty obvious now, that fulfilling this lifetime goal a 3rd time is a must. We came for some 20 year old Toyotas. We stay for the people.
