Japfest 2013 @ Mondello Park IRL
Das Japfest dürfte man in etwa als das irische Pendant zu unserem Reisbrennen ansehen. Das Motorsport-Spektakel findet auf Irlands wohl berühmtester Rennstrecke „Mondello Park“ statt und umfasst neben einem Show & Shine Contest und diversen Time-Attack-Sessions die fünfte Ausgabe der Irish Drift Championship, kurz IDC.
In diesem Bericht führe ich euch über das belebte Infield-Areal, um euch einen Eindruck über die irische Fahrzeugszene zu verschaffen, denn hier wird der Begriff Show & Shine etwas anders interpretiert.
The Japfest could be the irish version of our Reisbrennen. This motorsport spectacle took place at Ireland’s most famous race track, the „Mondello Park“ and included next to a Show & Shine contest and several Time Attack sessions, the fifth edition of the Irish Drift Championship, in short IDC.
I will show you around the trough the busy infield-area in this report, to provide you an insight about the irish car scene, as the term „Show& Shine“ is being intepreted quite differently.
Mal ehrlich, was verbinden wir mit Show & Shine ? Richtig, bis zur Unkenntlichkeit verspachtelte Fahrzeuge, die mit übergroßen Audio-Ausbauten, Airbrush Lackierungen und großen Chromfelgen protzen. In Irland weht der Wind anders…ganz anders. Klar, auf Hochglanz polierten Lack und überdimensionale Chromfelgen gibt es auch hier, jedoch wirkt es meines Erachtens nach wesentlich authentischer, wenn nicht gar stylischer. Natürlich liegt dies alles im Auge des Betrachters, aber wenn ihr mich fragt, fasziniert der oben gezeigte 180SX auf SSR Professors mehr als ein 30.000€ Dragon Theme Hyundai Coupe Projekt. Versteht ihr, was ich meine ?
Let’s be honest; What do we recall when we hear Show&Shine ? Correct, plastered vehicles beyond recognition with oversized audio systems, airbrush art, und chromwheels. It’s a different story in Ireland. Totally different. Obviously, the highly polished paint and the oversized chrome wheels are here as well, but it just seems more authentic, even more stylish, in my opinion. Of course it’s a matter of taste, but when you ask me, the 180SX on SSR Professors fascinates me much more than a 30’000€ Dragon Theme Hyundai Coupe Project. Do you know what I mean ?
Qualität statt Quantität – Die Iren scheinen großen Wert darauf zu legen, dass ihre japanische Importe möglichst authentisch rüber kommen. Bei 80% der auf dem Japfest vertretenen Autos hätte man gut und gerne denken können, dass sie erst gestern das Schiff aus Fernost verlassen haben und direkt nach Mondello Park gekommen sind.
Quality instead of Quantity – The Irish always want to make sure that their japanese imports look very authentically JDM. 80% of the cars which where exhibited on the Japfest looked like they just left the ship fro the far east yesterday, and headed straight up to Mondello Park.
Speziell die alten Corollas haben es mir seitdem wirklich angetan. Was so ein bisschen Tiefgang und ein Satz Oldschool Tiefbettfelgen ausmachen kann, hat mich wahrlich beeindruckt. Der KE70 ist neben dem AE86 das wohl bekannteste und vor allem beliebteste Corolla Modell und war in den unterschiedlichsten Ausführungen auf Mondello Park vertreten.
Especially the old Corollas have been one of my favourites. The effect that a set of Oldschool Rims with a deep offset and lowering can make, really impressed me. The KE70 is next to the AE86 the most famous and most popular Corolla model and was present in many versions at the Mondello Park.
Die Markenvielfalt auf dem Japfest war wirklich einmalig. Von der Rallye-Ikone Lancer Evolution III….

..über zukünftige Kassenschlager wie dem Toyota GT-86…

…bis hin zu einst rennstreckentauglichen Coupes wie dem DC5 Integra Type R, gabs beinahe alles was bis dato in der japanischen Fahrzeugszene angesagt ist.

Das Aufkommen von heilen RPS13 Modellen in Irland zeigt, dass nicht alle S-Chassis als kompromisslose Driftschüsseln enden.
The appearance of unharmed RPS13 in Ireland shows that not all S-Chassis end as uncompromising Drift missiles.
Bevor wir nun den Besucherparkplatz unsicher machen, möchte ich euch diese beiden Schmuckstücke nicht vorenthalten. Zum einen eine weitere 180SX Type X und zum anderen ein Toyota Chaser Tourer V in der seltenen Schalter-Variante.
Before we explore the visitor parking, I wanted to show you these two gems. The first one is a 180SX Type X and a Toyota Chaser Tourer V in the rare MT version.
Ich, mit meiner ausgeprägten Schwäche für die großen 1JZ-Boote, kam absolut auf meine Kosten. Auch auf dem Parkplatz tummelten sich einige Leckerbissen, wie dieser JZX90 MarkII.
I have a distinctive weakness for large 1JZ Boats, really enjoyed it. On the visitor parking were a few gems, like this JZX90 Mark II.
Etwas weiter abseits versteckte sich diese S15 Spec R im perfekten Zustand. Street Drift Machine? Weit gefehlt.
A little further apart, was this S15 Spec R hiding in a perfect condition. Street Drift Machine ? Far from it.
Ob dieser BNR32 einst auf dem Wangan C1 Loop anzutreffen war, bleibt ungewiss.
Whether this BNR32 once was encountered on the Wangan C1 Loop is uncertain.
Das hohe AE86-Aufkommen in Irland lässt sich wahrlich nicht verbergen. Auch dieser Trueno war im absolut perfekten Zustand. Was so was wohl heutzutage in Japan kosten mag ?
The numerous appearances of AE86 in Ireland couldn’t be dissembled. This Trueno was in an absolute flawless condition. What this might cost in Japan today ?
